second time’s a charm - heckler, mo, and i tried to hike breakneck ridge at the beginning of summer. after taking the wrong route at least twice, time got away from us, the weather turned on us, and we had to retreat to the city. to end the summer properly, i returned. awesome day.
after a long run and a quick visit from shrek, i ventured up to 252nd street (!) to wave hill public garden and cultural center. the plan was to check out the tree museum, which apparently did not require a 250 street trek to view, as the project is dispersed throughout manhattan. but the garden was beautiful, and i definitely felt removed from new york city. which is necessary every once in a while.
mitch came over to make nectarine raspberry ice cream. success!
worked at the long beach farmers market all day
tonight i learned about the history of ice cream and also got tips from a van leeuwen brother at the astor center’s slow u: ice cream, from sugar and snow. mitch came over and we went to town on our little business. more on that soon.
saturdays finally opened and i, appropriately, had a meeting there tonight for my surf documentary project. i officially declare it my new favorite coffee spot - where sex wax and coffee beans mingle in the air and new york city surfers lounge in the amazing back porch. it could not be any further from my typical surf coffee shop, however. it was a little to sleek, a little too clean, and perhaps too hip for its own good. though the hanging wetsuits on the back porch confirmed its authenticity.
i could not have asked for a better sunday. i went to the float exhibition at the socrates sculpture garden. the whole thing was rather perplexing, but a nice outing nonetheless.
then joe and tara invited me on their boat for an evening tour of manhattan. we circumnavigated the island and even went for a dip. i was exultant.

turns out that solar shed is going to be scrapped. good thing i spent all day yesterday cleaning it out. but i’m not complaining, because that just meant i got to do demo work today. manual labor is so gratifying.
sometimes i just can’t read in the mornings, so i started watching news podcasts on my ipod.
work today was manual labor - clearing out an old solar shed for showcase use at community events. save for the spider bites, i loved it.
